Jai Ho!!!

Sunday evening saw happiness and excitment beaming on most Indians faces with Slumdog Millionaire bagging 8 awards at the Oscars. They received awards for Best Picture,Best Direction,Best Music (Song and Score), Film Editing, Sound Mixing,Cinematography and for Best Adapted Screenplay. Though most of the awards were justified I really didnt think Slumdog dreserved the Best Picture award. Having watched all the movies that were nominated I was hoping that Frost/Nixon, Milk or Reader would have received the award.
Slumdog Millionaire was definitely a good movie but being an Indian, most of the movie was just like any other bollywood movie...a lot of unpractical stuff and a love story!! The music in the movie was good but undoubtedly was not AR Rahman's best. If he had to be recognised world wise for the best music he has composed so far, i think he would win endless awards.
Under the Short Documentory category, 2 more Indian based documentories were nominated out of which one of them (Smile Pinki) received a award.
So does it really look like Bollywood is coming to Hollwood??

Cirque de Soliel

I started to study Quickbooks recently. Its good and very easy to learn. Thought I will be in touch with my Accounts knowledge instead of sitting idle. Though I majored in Finance and Banking i never actually got to work in those fields which saddens me. Remmembering what all I learnt is a different part of the story :) but I wish I could get into something in my field just to gain some experience. Again in this market situation I will not even be that needle in a haystack.

Leaving behind all the miseries  of being jobless....today we are going to watch Cirque du soleil. I'm kind of excited. Recently it seems a guy died on stage while performing.http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/nationworld/nation/wire/sns-ap-performers-death,0,4538653.story A bit scarry to think of a body just dropping dead center stage.  Wonder what happens next??? Do they just continue with the show acting as if it was part of the performance or do they just stop the show??  Anyway...these shows are really nice and entertaiing..its going to be the first time Im watching one in Georgia. Ive seen the Blue Man group perform and ive also watched the musical "The Producers". For the The Producers..we didnt get good seats so I literally had to strain my eyes to watch but was well worth it. ( I was so hesitant to be the only one to use the binoculars provided on each seat)

Another weekend gone by...another valentines day gone by.....

As every weekend approaches..the same thing crosses my mind..."Oh! this weekend we are free!!!." But by Sunday night I start to wonder..How on earth did the 2 days pass by so quickly.  Unlike usual weekends, this weekend we had an agenda. We had to get couple of things done like renewing my husbands drivers license etc.  And so I started my Saturday morning rituals :
1) Have my cup of coffee
2) Browse
3) Browse
4) Browse
5) Not Browse but call my sister and chat (this chat would usually range anywhere from 2 mins to 1.5 hours)
So I guess that explains my saturday mornings. And yes I forgot to mention my N number of visits to the bedroom attempting to wake my husband up:)
Thanks to Presidents Day (whatever that means), the darn DMV was closed. One item off our agenda we go gift buying for  couple of occassions coming up. Then a bulb lights up in my husbands head and he mentions going out for dinner since its Valentines Day. We thought of trying a different place and head to a nice Meditterean restuarant. Hungry and literally seeing kabobs in my eyes...we find out that the Valentines Dinner special was $45 a plate. What amazed me was that the parking lot was full. Whatever happened to the recession???? We backed up and then stumbled upon a Thai resturant. It was really good. The food was good and we even got free dessert:) To end the day perfectly we watched Gran Torino. Definitely a good movie

Recession :(

So I finally managed to drag my car to a dealer to get rid of that check engine light. just as expected they charge me for a standard rate for just opening the damn hood and staring into the inside of my car. I decide to just go ahead and let them do it. After all how long will I drive around with that orange light staring at  me while driving. Then hours later I get a call with a list of things to be done on my car. These auto mechanics make it sound that if you dont repair what they say....our car might just blow up in pieces. Anyway..with the advice of another mechanic...I just told them to upgrade the software and not touch anything else. Its in cases like this that the word "recession" comes so much into use. The mechanice tried to convince me to get all the word done but I politely told him that in this current recession period I didnt want to spend too much on my car:)

OBD Code :139

Have you ever wondered what these codes mean? Well ya we  never wonder until that damn check engine light comes on. And thats exactly what happened to me. Was happily driving around when that light came on. And since then its been on my mind like an unsolved mystery. Took it to few places where they do this "Free check engine diagonistics" and I got this code 139. Did some reading up but led me to no where. And to get this thing repaired most places charge like $99 for their diagnostics and then additionally for the parts and labor and what not. Not to forget that they will list down an additional 100 other things which can be repaired on your car with a 4 digit bill :) i feel that  going to a car mechanic is like going to a dentist. You go there for one issue and you end up knowing that you have many many more and the best part is that all the work is really cheap ;) And just when you do everything you can to save some money...some thing like this happens and then really makes you wonder....Why bother saving???? Shouldnt we just live for today???
